1. Ion channel structure and function. Candidates should have a strong background in molecular modeling, molecular dynamics, and continuum electrostatics.
2. Ionic homeostasis in cellular compartment, specifically relating to lipid storage diseases of the lysosome and phagosomal maturation. Candidates should have a strong background in mathematical modeling of biological processes using continuum approaches as well as discrete methods such as the Gillespie algorithm.
3. Membrane mediated protein-protein interactions. This project uses elasticity theory to understand the role that membrane shape plays in the attraction between integral membrane proteins. Candidates should have a strong mathematical background in the theory of elasticity, including both numeric and analytic skills.
